The second day we searched again for breakfast, not knowing it was included at the hotel in our room rate.  Then we walked the few blocks to the Danube and looked with awe at the palace in Buda across the river (our hotel was in Pest).

Buda Castle viewed from across the river in Pest

Broader view, including the huge walled-in yard and guard station on the left side.
River tour boats are in the foreground.

Mandatory picture of me as proof we were there.

Back to the massive statue in the square where the Danube Karnival was in full swing and lunch was nearby.

Closer view, left side.

After lunch, we took a taxi across the river to the village area near the castle.

Massive statue and classic building in Buda

Closer view

Still closer of figures on the left side.  Ouch, those arrows must hurt.

Bronze statue of Steven I at Fisherman's Bastion.

Close-up. Couldn't get a broader view of the bastion and centered statue because of all the repair going on.

Part of Mathias Church, viewed from Fisherman's Bastion square behind the statue.
Its magnificent steeple was surrounded by scaffolding for cleaning (a bit of the scaffold peeks out at left).
