We continued to cruise on the M/S Swiss Sapphire to Durnstein, with a side trip on bikes from Durnstein to Melk, arranged by Tour Director Cindy Walker -- use video link below to see the bike trip.

You can see Durnstein and Melk (the 4th and 5th stops as we proceed westward) on the main cruise map:

On the remainder of this page I give pictures of the river and many pictures of homes, a beautiful church, a decaying castle defended by natural huge, rugged rocky outcroppings on the bank, and finally fun looks at streets and life in Durnstein.

Beautiful Austrian Village on the bank of the Danube

Approaching a bridge as we pass another village

A broader view of the bridge, village, and front corner of our ship

Homes nestled in with old castle remains

Elaborate home with typical vineyard up the hill

Approaching a church with clock tower and spire

Less obstructed view -- it's beautiful!

Amazing view of hilltop castle remains defended by rugged, tree-lined ridge

Home density increases as we approach Durnstein.

This home seems to be built into old castle remains.

Street-top view of beautiful Durnstein surroundings.
The sign says "Except Local traffic." Good for them!

Tourists flood this street -- some signs in English.

Inviting street scene
