As you see in the map above, Nurnberg is on the Danube-to-Main river canal (higlighted in blue), We begin here on the canal about to enter a lock that will lower our ship (the Swiss Sapphire) to the level of the canal beyond. Note that canal shore is very plain and the scenery wide open farms.

Farmland along the Danube-to-Main river canal

Zoomed into the farm on the right above

We get the green light to enter the lock.

On the left is the reservoir into which water from the lock is pumped back and forth.

We are now in the lock and the water level is lowering.

About half way down to next canal section level

We are at the next canal section level with the gate opening as water seeks canal level.

The gate is partially open as the lock water level adjusts to the next canal section level.

Parting shot of lock name as we leave it

Ship crew member continues to monitor ship-to-lock gap as we look back at lock structure.

Now in Nurnberg, we approach the stadium in which Hitler conducted Nazi rallies both before and after his 1933 election to power.

Inside what remains of the stadium. A rehabilitation is planned.

Satadium as Hitler had it, with glassed roof, vast seating, and central podium

Famous Nurnberg courthouse where Hitler's henchmen were tried for war crimes and more.

Shot in Old Town over passenger heads through a window of  bus that took us to further venues.
