This section of the river is dominated by vinyards
and castles (some 40 castles in the region).



The day was overcast and dark, so what castles
I captured were with heavy photo editing.



A full-blown church is tucked in next to
this castle, so it may still be occupied.

The castles here were built for ruling overlords.
The castle to come in Braubach is a Fortress, built to defend the river.



This one has obvious defensive ramparts.

During the war, railroad engineers modified tunnel
entrances to look like castles to avoid bombardment.

Never waste good soil -- vinyards tucked around rock outcroppings.
