After we viewed the falls our two motor coaches took us back to the Sea Bird on which we continued west in the Columbia River Gorge to the Bonneville lock, dam and power station.  As we approached the lock, our Expedition Leader, Lee Fleischer, announced that anyone who would like to go through the lock in a Zodiac should report to the ship's stern. It was quite cold and windy so I deferred to others. Three Zodiacs quickly filled with adventurers. That was almost half of the total tour group joining in the fun!

Important note:  I took these pictures and posted this page in part to make available high resolution images for those who participated in this Zodiac adventure.  Right click on the pictures here to open larger images in a separate tab.

One of three filled Zodiacs casts off for an adventure to and through the Bonneville lock.

We passed under this bridge as the Zodiacs buzzed around us.

It wasn't long before they were racing each other.

This looks like fun -- cold, but fun.  Standing are Lee Fleischer and videographer Jim Napoli.

Here they follow Sea Bird into the lock.
I was climbing all around the Sea Bird to get these pictures.

A happy bunch in the lock.  I think the pilot here is Third Mate Kelin Hickey.

Another, piloted by expedition staff member Linda Burback.

The third, piloted by Expedition Leader Lee Fleischer.  You can see Lee and Jim Napoli more clearly in this closer view.

The Zodiac adventurers wait patiently as the lock empties to the downstream water level.

The Zodiacs proceed into the dusk below Bonneville lock.
