Second Day on the Lake -- April 18, 1999
(Posted April 20)

As promised, on Sunday, April 18, we toodled to the opposite end of the lake to swim and have lunch at Hideaway Park. We got there about 11:30 a.m. and were joined by Barbara shortly after 1:00 p.m. You recall, she had to drive all the way home to Los Altos and back in order to to some work with her chorus. After all the swimming on Saturday the kids were content to just mess around the boat and wade out into the water periodically. Nik was more adventurous and spent most of his time bobbing in the water on a tube, as he had done at Explorer Park on Saturday.

Barbara drove back to our house by road while the rest of us cut directly across the lake by boat. We met her at the dock. She and all the kids wanted to go on a boat ride, so we dropped Mary off to get dinner ready (sound familiar?) and Nik took us on a quick tour. I had to get back by 3:45 p.m. so I could clean the barbeque in preparation for salmon and shark (for Nik). It needed cleaning badly -- it took me an hour to take it all apart and reassemble it. I had the fish cooking by 4:50 and we were were eating at 5:10. Meanwhile Barbara was packing all the kid's stuff for the trip home.

The meal was wonderful, moreso because the kids were hungry and ate all their veggies, potatoes, and fish. We were finished by 5:45. The kids had ice cream for desert and then climed into the van with Barbara. They were on their way back to Milpitas and Los Altos at 6:00.

I didn't post this Sunday evening because Mary and I were so tired we just sat in front of the TV watching Horatio Hornblower, tape 3, with me fast-forwarding through the commercials. Fortunately, I didn't have to play golf until 11:40 a.m. on Monday so I got a few things done before going. Meanwhile, Mary was hitting balls from the driving range, took her last of six lessons at 2:00 p.m., and then played her first nine holes of golf at 3:00, with three of her tennis buddies who are all learning the game. She had a great time. So much so that I made reservations for she and I to play at 3:04 this afternoon (Tuesday).

Hideaway Park viewed from the boat.

Mary at picnic table.
Not too flattering of Barbara relaxing after 170-mile drive from Los Altos.
Maddie and Courtney do their favorite pose.
The kids liked to just hop around the boat.
More tongues and donkey ears from the kids.
Nik discovered climbing up the ladder was fun,
especially when I told him it was alright to get the boat wet.
Nik and Maddie ran round and round, through the water,
up the ladder, dripping wet through the boat, and out again.
Herb, cleverly hiding his pot with his arm.
Couldn't do much about the rest of the fat, and white skin.
Barbara and Mary load a chair back onto the boat,
getting ready for Nik to pilot us back home.
