It's September so we must be getting together with the Howard Hughes Fellows of 1952 (Walt and I) and 1953 (Dick).  Walt & Hazel Baldasti arrived with Dick and Lorraine Snow at dinner time on Tuesday, September 22.  We drove the back roads to Malakoff Diggin's the next day (Wednesday), went to the Draft Horse Classic Thursday afternoon and evening, and enjoyed the musical The Andrews Brothers at the Off Broad Street in Nevada City on Friday. They continued on to Placerville and other adventures Saturday morning.
Our rebuilt dock (completed only two days before the Hughes Fellows arrived) with a beautiful sky in the background.

I mowed and trimmed the lawn the next day (Monday) before arrival of the Fellows on Tuesday afternoon.

Hazel and Mary enjoy the first morning after the arrival.

Closer picture (guess I've got to find a less conspicuous place for the trash and beach-toy cans!)

Just after our arrival at the Malakoff Diggin's Ranger Station on Wednesday

Close-up of the gang, sans me

Hazel, Walt, and Mary stand about a foot from the sheer drop into the Diggin's behind them.

They squeeze closer together to reveal a small fraction of the multi-colored remains of hydraulic mining.

A broader view of the Diggin's, from the campgrounds just up the road

Mary, Lorraine and Hazel relax on the bench nearby.
