Part 2 -- Tearing Out Juniper and Grass (continued)
Work on Monday, May 16, 2011
Tony and his crew returned to working on our neighbor's garden, took the weekend off, and returned to work on our yard early Monday, May 16.
Today
Tony and his crew moved down to the juniper on the lake side of the lawn. Here he opens the jaws of his bucket to grab juniper already pulled out. |
He sets the jaws above the juniper pile... |
...grabs the pile and drags it up onto the lawn. |
Here he has just completed scooping deep roots from the ground around our utility box. |
Now he comes back with jaws open to grab the root ball. |
The jaws continue to close. |
The jaws are now closed on the partially removed roots. |
Then he drives back as he raises the jaws to pull the roots. |
Here he is completing the same process on a juniper clump next to the upper stairs. |
Then he pivots around to drop the juniper onto an accumulating pile. |
Juniper in an area too narrow for tractor access are pulled with the strap being hooked onto the tractor. |
Tony gives thumbs up as Tom adjust the strap around the juniper. |
Now starts the pulling... |
...until the juniper, roots and all, are yanked from the ground. |
Removed juniper on the other side of the walkway. |
With fire permit in pocket, Tony and Tom burn all the juniper piles you've seen. |
They continue to gather juniper and toss it onto the fire. |
Soon it is all gone and Mary walks down the path to inspect the moonscape. |
Mud remains where there was once lawn (it had rained over the weekend). |
Mary checks on the fire. |
