A rain storm began about the time Dave arrived and continued to fall through December 23, totaling about 5 inches and melting all the snow in the mountains below about 7500 feet. The runoff was just as from a Spring rain and the lake rose high enough to almost submerge our dock. The next morning (December 24) began with heavy fog, which burned off by 10 a.m. followed by bright sunshine and a beautiful, warm day. I was working away on my computer when I looked out the window and saw the beautiful day. No one was home and our little Prius was gone, so I figured everyone had gone into town.

Not knowing how long this rain letup would last, I rushed out the door, hopped into my golf cart, and headed for the course to whack a few balls. As I walked through the pro shop I asked if there were an opening for a single -- Bob Tornberg, the starter, just chuckled. I said I only wanted to play nine holes, so he sent me out to the 10th hole, which happened to be open. By the time I'd rushed to hit a drive down the fairway the starter had sent a second player to join me. I was glad to see him, for the company and also for the opportunity to put on my golf shoes while he hit his tee shot. The two of us had just hit our second shots when another golf cart came down the path with a third player to join us. It was great fun playing with these young guys because both of them belted the ball about 300 yards off the tee. But by the 18th hole I'd beaten them both by shooting a 42 (one birdie, two pars, and only one double bogie). It was great fun and took us only an hour and a half -- no waiting.

When I got back home at about 2 p.m. I asked where everyone had disappeared while I was editing pictures on the computer. Mary and Mickie had indeed taken the car to go shopping, but Dave and the kids had gone for a canoe ride. I think my short nine holes ended not long after they returned to shore.

Christmas morning it was raining again, and it rained all day long. Dave and Mickie put out the presents during the night, so I was greeted by the beautiful sight of Mary's tree all lit up in the dark room and surrounded by presents when I got up for my post-midnight run to you know where.

Part way through -- some presents are still around the tree while others lie around opened.

Dave was decked out in his Santa shirt.

Courtney will make a great belly dancer.

Nik sets up his new football game on his Sony player.
(The baseball cap is always on his head, inside or outside, and he similarly wears his poncho.
So far I haven't detected any bugs flying out when he takes his cap off briefly).

Courtney, among a few remaining presents and Santa's Village

She now has her RayEarth TV series DVDs on her lap.

Nik returned to opening presents after waiting until Courtney's were nearly all opened.
Note he's exchanged his poncho for a Colorado hockey jersey, a gift from Mary and me.

But it wasn't long 'till he was back with his Sony game player.

Dave helps Courtney get The Sims game into her player.

Mary tries to figure out what her present from Dave and Mickie is.

It's a Magic Bullet -- a blender for individual drinks and other uses.

Herb, with Leave It To Beaver and Seinfeld DVDs from Mary

Another snap by Mickie, with better light

Dave gets to open a few presents.

Mickie, happy with her Cuisinart from Mary (and me)
