Political Commentary

Like most of you I get e-mail links to videos of various sorts and most are entertaining and that's that. Others links are to presentations of lasting interest.  I put these here as a method of getting back to them for another view, at least until they're taken down from YouTube or wherever.  When they disappear from YouTube I'll make their listing here disappear as well.

Political Lies?  Here's a whopper disguised as honest --
Obama's "4 Million Jobs"

Collectivism and Individualism

The danger of one-world government is that the one being promoted, and existing as the UN, is based on collectivism instead of individualism. A one-world government based on individualism and liberty could be a good thing, but one-world government based on collectivism is certainly bad.

One Nation Under God, and The Obamanation

Most of you know that I don't believe in supernatural mysteries like God, but this painting by Jon McNaughton has captured the spirit of Colonial America so well that I present it here. In addition to the physical painting he has also created interactive versions of this and other paintings to be viewed on the Internet which give stories about each character by placing your cursor on them. Many of the thoughts of the modern characters, below the steps in front of Jesus, are controversial and far right of my opinions.  Visit his website at http://www.jonmcnaughton.com/ to see this and other paintings with interactive links about characters in the paintings.

Obama's America 2016

This extremely important movie is playing in theaters this summer, based on a book by Dinesh D'Souza, President of King's College.

Dinesh D'Souza is author of many New York Times best sellers. The movie is from Gerald R. Molen, producer of Academy Award Winning Schindler's List, Jurassic Park, and Braveheart.  It explains in plain language who Barack Obama really is, what he stands for, and the dangers of him being reelected for another four years.

Watch this 14 minute video preview of this movie which came out Feb.28, 2012 and share it with others. It has already been seen by over 290,000 people. Within a very short time it will have been seen by millions.

Comments on Full Movie:

Monday, August 27, 2012.  Frank and I went to the Mercado Movie Theatre this morning to see the film; Obama's America in 2016. The Mercury-News reported this morning that America 2016 is one of the top ten attended films, which is unusual because it gives a conservative view. The film is well-documented, interesting, and moves along quite well.

Another friend, who went to see the film last week, said the theatre was so filled she had to sit in the very first row. She said when the film was over people clapped and some spontaneously stood up and spoke to the audience. We chose the first showing today because we were hoping the theatre would not be crowded and it was not. Everyone started clapping at the conclusion today also.

What I am encouraging you to do is to go see the film. It is important to be an informed voter, very important! Someone in my family asked me how does one know who or what to believe? I told her it wasn't easy but the truest picture of a person is not what they say but rather what have they done. Words are cheap and mean nothing. The old saying: "Actions speak louder than words." is still true. This is what is documented in Obama's America in 2016, past actions and the why behind them. The liberal media gives us one side of the story. To be an informed voter, one must know both sides of a story, then make up your mind.

Sincerely, this is an excellent film. You will not be bored. It was made and produced by top notch people with excellent credentials. By going to the theatre and watching it all you have to lose is a couple of hours and the price of a ticket.

Becky & I went to see this movie on Sunday, August 26, 2012.

It was interesting, but I would recommend just waiting until the DVD is available.

There was a lot of background about Obama’s family, especially his Father, of which I only knew a small amount. The author’s theory is Obama is anti-colonial – mostly because of his Father’s experience in Kenya – and is trying to right the wrongs of past colonial powers – the US included. I can’t say I found the argument to be compelling.

What I found most interesting was the audience at this 12:15 afternoon screening. There were more people than I would have guessed in the theater – I would say 50-60. But most notable was that almost all were seniors. Maybe in retrospect not too surprising – as few people are interested in politics – those few largely being seniors - and fewer still interested in a less than positive view of Obama – probably no Democrats in the audience? From this very limited observation, I conclude Obama might be in trouble with seniors in November.

A Budget That Can't Be Balanced
This is not political opinion -- just facts that you can pull up on your own.
Watch in full screen if it helps you read the numbers.

Comment by Len Schwer:
As scary as this is, it is probably an optimistic assessment of the future – optimistic because as soon as we get out of this recession inflation will come back and the interest on our increased borrowed money will increase, and as that occurs the ‘faith’ of the lenders will decrease causing interest to increase – that’s called a death spiral, or in one word, Greece.

1. The average American understands none of this economic “mombo-jombo”

2. If they did have an understanding, they would still not vote to cut their benefits – or perceived entitled future benefits – cut the other guy NOT me!

Paul Ryan: Hiding Spending Doesn't Reduce Spending
Uploaded by AmericanRoadmap on Feb 25, 2010

Recap of Ryan's comments:

"I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits -- either now or in the future."
(Remarks by President Obama to a Joint Session of Congress, September 9, 2009)

This afternoon Budget Committee Ranking Member Ryan walked through why the bill put forward by Democrats FAILS the President's deficit test.

The Majority Leader said the bill scores as reducing deficit by $131 billion over the next 10 years.

First a little bit about CBO: I work with them every single day; very good people; great professionals. They do their jobs well. But their job is to score what is placed in front of them. And what has been placed in front of them is a bill that is fill of gimmicks and smoke and mirrors.

Now what do I mean when I say that?

First off, the bill has ten years of tax increases and ten years of Medicare cuts to pay for six years of spending. The true ten year cost when subsidies kick-in? $2.3 trillion.

The bill is full of gimmicks that more than erase the false claim of deficit reduction:

- $52 billion of savings is claimed by counting increased Social Security payroll revenues. These dollars are already claimed for future Social Security beneficiaries, and claiming to offset the cost of this bill either means were double-counting or were not going to pay Social Security benefits.

- $72 billion in savings is claimed from the CLASS Act long-term care insurance. These so-called savings are not offsets, but rather premiums collected to pay for future benefits. Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad has called these savings, A ponzi scheme that would make Bernie Madoff proud.

Additionally, the nearly half-trillion dollars in Medicare cuts cannot be counted twice. Medicare is in dire need of reform in order to make certain that we can ensure health security for future seniors.

Using Medicare as a piggy bank, it raids a half trillion dollars from retirees health coverage to fund the creation of another open-ended health care entitlement.

The Presidents chief Medicare actuary says up to 20% of Medicare providers may go bankrupt or stop taking Medicare beneficiaries as a result. Millions of seniors who have chosen Medicare Advantage will lose the coverage they now enjoy.

Objections to the policy aside, you cannot use these savings twice to both extend the life of Medicare and to pay for other spending. The half-trillion dollars in Medicare cuts are either to extend the programs solvency or to reduce the cost of this deficit but not both as its authors claim.

When you strip away the double-counting of Medicare cuts, the so-called savings from Social Security payroll taxes and the CLASS Act, the deficit increases by $460 billion over first ten years and $1.4 trillion over second ten years.

Finally, one of the most expensive and most cynical of the gimmicks applies to Medicare physician payments, the so-called Doc Fix.

By your own estimate, the Doc Fix adds an additional $371 billion to the cost of health care reform. With the price tag beyond what most Americans could handle, the Majority decided to simply remove this costly provision and deal with it in a stand-alone bill.

Ignoring this additional cost does not remove it from the backs of taxpayers. Hiding spending doesnt reduce spending.

The Free Market and The Environment with Doug Bandow

Environmental quality has been a major public concern since the first Earth Day in 1970, yet the maze of environmental laws and regulations enacted since them has fostered huge government bureaucracies better known for waste and failure than innovation and success.

Can the free market do better than this failed environmental bureaucracy? Doug Bandow thinks so.

Doug Bandow is a senior fellow at the Cato Institute, specializing in foreign policy and civil liberties. He worked as special assistant to President Reagan and editor of the political magazine Inquiry. He writes regularly for leading publications such as Fortune magazine, National Interest, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Times. Bandow speaks frequently at academic conferences, on college campuses, and to business groups. Bandow has been a regular commentator on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox News Channel, and MSNBC. He holds a J.D. from Stanford University. (Available up to 720p resolution, which you can select and then view in full screen.)

Union Bosses Okay Digging Up–Then Filling Back In–Ditches on Taxpayers' Dime

James O’Keefe’s new Project Veritas video (see below) is a stunning exposé of union corruption surrounding so-called “shovel ready” jobs. In typically irreverent Project Veritas style, O’Keefe introduces a new company: Earth Supply and Renewal. What do they do? O’Keefe explains:

First, our excavation specialists insert their shovels into the ground and remove the soil. This presents the problem of an existing hole in the earth, creating a dangerous situation that could lead to hazards, including but not limited to tripping, falling, and bodily injuries.

Then there is the renewal process. At Earth Supply, we train professional backfillers to renew the soil in place of the existing hole, restoring the earth to its original condition.

Some folks say we’re just digging ditches and filling them back up again. But it’s about more than that. It’s about jobs.

That’s the setup. O’Keefe’s Project Veritas then takes this newly-created non-existent company – a company dedicated to digging and filling holes – and asks for help from local union bosses to move subsidies for Earth Supply and Renewal through legislatures. After all, they argue, even if we’re just digging ditches and refilling them on the taxpayer dime, at least we’re creating new union workers.

And, unbelievably, the union bosses are only too happy to help. They couldn’t care less about wasting taxpayer dollars. And that’s precisely what they say.
