Larue married Kenneth Prate on November 27, 1944. In these pictures their home was on Polk Street near Cicero Avenue in Chicago, and Scott was about a year old. Dot had come to spend the day helping Larue wash down the walls. Larue had found and rented this 2-story cottage (4 rooms and a bath) in the back of the city lot. The owner's home was at the front of the lot. This was about a month before Ken was due home the Pacific where he had served in the U.S. Navy on the aircraft carrier Suwanee and on Saipan. Ken and Larue's families had worked hard cleaning, papering and painting the house. Ken and Larue had lived in the house almost two years when these photos were taken. Chicago was such a sooty place that curtains and drapes had to be washed and cleaned once a month. Walls should have been cleaned in Larue's home after the first year but the first year she was seriously ill with Scott's pregnancy and weak for a long time after the birth.
