There are several pictures like this, for which the group would hire a professional photographer for dress-up parties. In this case they all donned men's suits. The parties were held at different homes. Edna is seated at far left with Dot next to her. Dot's caption is, "Find Edna's chair." and "Some cross eyes." Dot told Larue that she had winked her right eye (left as you view the picture) as the picture was taken, just to be cute. The photographer thought it was accidental so painted in a right eye, but not too successfully. Dot never liked this photo because she said she looked cross eyed. She does look a bit weird, like she's squinting, because the right side of her face is distorted from the wink.

Note the stained glass chandelier. It is probably the one they had wherever they went. The family (Edna, Ernest, Nanny, and daughters Vera Jeanne and Charlotte) moved to Downers Grove Illinois after they had the girls and Edna's father died. They lived in several homes there, always taking the chandelier. Charlotte married and moved to New York with her famous husband baritone Sherrill Milner. After Ernest died, Edna sold their last Downers Grove home and went to live with Charlotte. She took the chandelier with her. When Larue visited Charlotte in 1990 Charlotte had the chandelier in her dining room in her home in Virginia. Charlotte and Sherrill had two children, Eric and Erin. They divorced while living in New York. Charlotte married again after several years, to Borah Shnaider, and when he retired they moved to a "four square" two-story farmhouse in Virginia. Tragically, Borah developed Alzheimer's. He died in 1995 or 1996. Charlotte is still in the home and so is the chandelier. Hanging onto a chandelier is not a nutty idea. Larue and Ken bought a chandelier in 1954 while living in Palatine, Illinois. Larue has taken it with her to every place she has lived ever since. Now (2004 and counting) it is in her dining room in Guadalupe, California.
