| The train trip from Chicago to Washington DC in coach seats on the Amtrak Capitol Limited was mostly uneventful because most of the trip was in the dark and the train went through a tunnel formed by trees on both sides of the tracks the following morning. We arrived at Union Station near the Mall and Capitol buildings shortly after lunch and struggled with our baggage on foot to get to the Phoenix Park Hotel at 520 Capitol Street NW. As we walked, we passed the U.S. Postal Museum, kitty corner across the street from the hotel. After a brief rest in the hotel we walked back to the museum for a quick look. |
