Dot in a beautiful dress, sitting on a porch swing.
Dot probably made this dress. Her mother Elizabeth made all of her daughters' clothes as they grew up, and her husband's and sons' shirts. She taught her daughters to sew, and Dorothy really took to it. She made her own clothing and then her children's, including the boys' shirts and sports jackets. |

Edna with her mother (later called "Nanny") and their elaborate Victorian hats.
Judging by Edna's hat and skirt throughout this series, they were all on an
outing somewhere.
After Edna had married Dot's brother Ernest and had three children, her mother was known as "Nanny." Their children were Vera Jeanne, 1.5 years younger than Larue, a boy who died of pneumonia at 3 months, and the youngest, Charlotte, who was 10 years younger than Vera Jeanne and called "Chatty" as a youth. Larue's own grandmother, Elizabeth Slack, died when Larue was only seven. Larue hardly knew her because the family didn't live close enough to 3149 for frequent visits. Larue was close to Nanny Cullison because from 7 years old until Nanny died when Larue was 25 years old Larue saw a lot of her. Ernest and Edna's family lived in Downers Grove, close enough for frequent visits by the Ed Lindberg family, then at 3149 S. Karlov. Larue and Vera Jeanne became very close and spent as much time together as possible. Nanny lived with Ernest and Edna so of course Larue came to know her well and love her as a second grandmother. |
