Dot's sister Ann (left, playing cello) in quartet at Grand Beach during the summer of 1912.

One member (the violinist?) had a little boy who died when he hemorrhaged after a tonsillectomy. Sad. The mother gave Ann a dark brown drawstring silk bag with the name Billy chain stitched in big letters on the outside, to give to Larue and friends to play with. It contained his ballet slippers, which fit none of Larue or her friends' feet -- too small. The girls took the bag everywhere with them, along with their "dress-up" things and handled it with tenderness as a kind of memorial to the little boy they never met who died so young. It finally wore out along with the other lovely "dress-up" things Ann had given them.
