Our trip to Hampton Court Palace began with a Tube ride to the London Waterloo Train Station.   (Click for Large)

Our destination was a station just across the Thames from Hampton Court Palace, about a half hour ride.
Here we're on a bridge with the Palace on the left.   (Click for Large)

Just on the other side of the bridge is the main entrance.

The older Tudor part of the castle is straight ahead. The long building on the left used to be the stables.   (Click for Large)

Another angle.   (Click for Large)

Tudor architechture and chimneys stand out as we walk nearer.   (Click for Large)

One of ten statues of heraldic animals, called the King's Beasts, this one a lion.
They represent the ancestry of King Henry VIII and his third, and favorite, wife Jane Seymour.

Another "Kyng's Beeste" -- The Dragon.

The black bull of Clarence (the Duke of Clarence).

About to enter the main archway and be greeted by Gemma in her red uniform.   (Click for Large)

First interior courtyard, West Court.   (Click for Large)

Mary approaches a fountain (recently re-installed) that once ran with wine, as signified by statues of two drunks.   (Click for Large)

Delving deeper into the castle complex.   (Click for Large)

The door near the center leads to Henry VIII's kitchens, where these women and we are headed.   (Click for Large)

On the way to Henry VIII's kitchens.

One of several huge cooking fireplaces, this one with hooks for hanging pots at a wide choice of heat levels.

Individual fire boxes for cooking vegetables and soups at independent heat levels.

Wood supply and another fireplace.  These kitchens provided two meals a day for about 600 people on the royal palace staff, plus feasts for guests.
