Our daughter Barbara Heninger arranged a magnificant two-week trip in England and served as our tour guide throughout the two weeks.  She arranged for us to stay in private homes in London and in Troutbeck in the Lake District, a 5.5-hour drive north of London.  The tour itinerary is outlined in the table above with links to all the pages of photos and descriptions.

This is the street on which we lived during the tour of London. It was a 0.3-mile walk from a London Tube station.

The flat in which we stayed was at the other end of the block from which I took the above photo.
We occupied the top two floors of the unit on the right, where Andy and Barbara are standing.

The view out our bedroom window at the rear end of the flat.

I was pleased to see that there are alleys in back of the residences, much as in my home town of Chicago.

A large part of the adventure for me was riding The Tube everywhere we went.
Here we're transfering at the Earl's Court station on the way to Westminster.

The Earl's Court station was on an elevated portion of The Tube, as is most of the system outside central London.

We are heading toward Wesminster Abbey just after leaving The Tube. The abbey is the elaborate structure behind the tree on the right.

Looking back toward The Tube station is a nice view of Big Ben Tower.    (Click for Large)
Big Ben is the massive bell, not the tower. It was cast at Whitechapel Bell Foundry, in East London, on 10th April 1858.

Another view.

The tour through Westminster Abbey was extremely interesting, in part because so many of England's
famous people are buried there
. I have nothing to show here except this statue-cluttered entry because
no photography is allowed inside. Click here for more. (Click for Large)

Another view.

I took this from well down the street. The centered column with elaborate statues on top
is about 100 feet in front of the abbey.   (Click for Large)

Maddie and Barbara in a hotel pub just down the street from the abbey.

Pub action. Dogs are more welcome in England than in the U.S.

Waiting for our lunch.
