After a break to eat, we drove to Townend in Troutbeck, the home of the Browne family since about 1625.
They were
typical middle class farmers who raised cattle, sheep and other products.
Entrance to the home is now throught the kitchen, in which this cooking fireplace was installed in 1623.

The home is lit entirely by natural light to preserve the many original artifacts.
This is still in the kitchen -- the fireplace is just out of view on the right.   (Click for Large)

The rest of the kitchen cabinets.  Elaborate carving of woodwork throughout
the house was done by the most recent George Browne.   (Click for Large)

Fireplace in the "fire house," the main room with heat where people gathered.

Still in the large fire house.  Simulated food on the table depicts items cooked with a centuries old cook book on display.   (Click for Large)

Fireplace in the State bedroom, used for guests.  Carvings are really wild here.

Elaborately carved bed (initialed George and Elinore Brown, 1672), and crib (1670).   (Click for Large)

More very old furniture

The older section of barn has the ramp leading up to it.  We arrived via the road in front of it.   (Click for Large)
